Christine had spent too long away from the school. She had missed it, quite a bit. And now it was late at night and she was tired of working and working and working. She hadn't seen a single friend since she'd come back after her last bout of depression.
Christine snuck down to the water's edge and stripped down to her panties and bra, and dove into the smooth surface of the freezing water. A loud splash, and then all was silent. Christi was swimming in the water fluidly, as though she was made for water. Her hair floated around her. Finally her lungs screamed for air and she launched herself from the lake's bottom up to the surface. She broke the smooth water's surface to take a deep breath. And then she heard a squeal. "I know that squeal anywhere. NATALIE!" Christine shouted, swimming to the shore.

Natalie smiled. She had been sitting round where the old Oak Tree was, reading a rather interesting book. Natalie had been waiting, missing, yearning for those days where she and Chrissy sat by the water and just talked. She missed her best friend. She got up, smoothed her skirt, and slowly glided toward where she saw the ripples of her friends breaking the still, still surface of the water. Water that had been still for so long, would now be moving frequently. She slowly unzipped her skirt, and let it fall to her ankles. A breeze flew past but she couldn't feel the cold air. Natalie's hand moved to her shirt, unbuttoning the buttons, and also letting it fall to her feet. She took a deep breath, then another, and! ran and jumped into the water. It was the beginning of the middle of an endless story.

Christy laughed as the water splashed around her. "Nat!" She shouted, pulling Natalie into a hug. Neither girl seemed to care that they were soaking wet or half naked. They loved each other too much to give thought to little things like that. They just had that bond that no one could break. "I missed you." Christy whispered. "So much." It was quiet for a second as the girls stood, chest deep, in the cold water, clinging to each other. Christy's grip on Natalie was tight, probably bruising.

When Christy finally let go of her bone crushing hug, Natalie began to take it all in. She took in the sweet scent of the pine trees all around. She listened to the faint sound of the mermaid's cries. She looked at her best friend. She could feel the cool wind gently touching her back. This is the life.

Christi smiled. "Gosh I missed you. It's been wild lately. I've been in fights, revolts, gone to court, spent some time in jail after being wrongfully accused, and I was even married for a few weeks. Didn't go well- he was using me to get information on the Light side so I killed him. How have you been?"

"I wish I would have been there with you. As for me, it's been bland..Still trying to find myself. It'll happen.

I just need some pushing." Natalie grinned. "And with the dynamic duo back! we will accomplish anything and everything."

"You bet." Christine said, climbing out of the water and shaking like a dog, her hair sending droplets flying everywhere. She flung her hair back and smiled.
